SEISMICITY ANALYSIS
SEISMICITY
ANALYSIS
The term seismicity refers to the number of
earthquakes of any size that have occurred in a large region over a prolonged
period in the past. Knowledge of seismicity is essential for assessing the
seismic hazard especially for developing countries like India where destruction
and deaths due to earthquakes are accentuated due to shoddy civil
constructions. The economic and social effects of earthquakes can be reduced
through a comprehensive assessment of the seismic hazard risk for seismic prone
areas. Such a study would lead to an increase in public awareness, with a
consequent upgrading of the existing buildings and engineering work, as well as
reliable earthquake resistant designs for new structures.
